SPFR100 Fire-Retardant Treatment for Timber

A water-based, transparent impregnation for absorbent timber and wood-based materials. It improves reaction-to-fire performance while keeping the wood looking like wood.

How it works

Impregnation, not a coating

SPFR100 penetrates the surface of absorbent timber rather than forming a visible film. Its published EuroClass B-s1,d0 reaction-to-fire classification under EN 13501-1 applies within the tested and certified configuration defined in classification report K16/2024 and certificate ET-0388-24. Project suitability must be confirmed for the intended substrate and end-use configuration.

Transparent finish

No visible fire-retardant paint or lacquer — the natural appearance and texture of the wood are preserved.

Water-based

Solvent-free and formaldehyde-free. Not classified as hazardous under CLP.

Broad application scope

Facades, cladding boards, structural timber, CLT, plywood, log houses and other absorbent wood-based materials.

Application

Coverage & method

Apply by brush, roller or a suitable spray system. The number of coats depends on the surface finish, and total consumption should reach the tested rate to achieve the classified performance.

  • Fine-sawn surfaces: typically 2 coats
  • Planed surfaces: typically 3 coats
  • Certified total application: 240 g/m² across all coats (approximately 210 ml/m²)
  • Substrate: bare, absorbent wood ≥ 18 mm

Generally not suitable for lacquered, painted, oiled or otherwise sealed surfaces unless compatibility has been confirmed in advance with Solid Protect.

Tinting option

SPFR100 can be tinted with selected pigments while keeping a translucent finish. Suitability depends on the chosen shade, substrate and application conditions — ask us for available tones and samples.

Compliance in Ireland

Supporting TGD B project assessment

Ireland's Technical Guidance Document B uses the European reaction-to-fire classification system. SPFR100's published B-s1,d0 classification and supporting documentation can be used when assessing a project, but applicability must be verified against the project fire strategy, intended configuration and relevant Irish requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Is SPFR100 classified as B-s1,d0?

SPFR100 has a published EuroClass B-s1,d0 reaction-to-fire classification under EN 13501-1, which applies within the tested and certified configuration defined in classification report K16/2024 and certificate ET-0388-24. Other substrates or end-use configurations require project-specific verification.

How much SPFR100 is required?

The certified total application is 240 g/m² across all coats (approximately 210 ml/m²). Actual volume depends on the substrate and application conditions; add a small allowance and follow the current Technical Data Sheet.

Can SPFR100 be used outdoors in Ireland?

A formulation is available for weather-exposed absorbent timber. Exterior suitability depends on the substrate, application, detailing, exposure and maintenance. SPFR100 does not currently claim an EN 16755 EXT durability classification.

Does B-s1,d0 automatically demonstrate TGD B compliance?

No. The published B-s1,d0 classification applies within the tested and certified configuration and can support a project assessment, but compliance must be verified against the project fire strategy, intended configuration and relevant Irish requirements.
